About Us

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is a government agency dedicated to promoting local content creation throughout the country. This is achieved through the development, production, promotion, licensing, and permitting of the creative industry stakeholders. The Commission, after merging with the Broadcasting Council in 2012, began its journey to set standards and guidelines that govern the industry.

The Uganda Communications Act 2013 guides the mandate of the UCC and its functions in regulating the communications sector.

What We Do

Uganda Communications Commission supports the development, production, promotion, marketing, exhibition, and distribution of local content. UCC offers sector-building training, workshops, in the creation, production, promotion, marketing, exhibition, and distribution of local content. UCC offers funding opportunities to content creators through the Content Development Support Program (CDSP), which runs yearly. UCC supports the local content producers through the promotion and marketing of their content and skills at local and international platforms, including markets, competitions, such as Uganda Film Festival, Regional Film Competition, and more….

Please note, Uganda Communications Commission does not:

  • Fund content which is not documentary or narrative (also known in the industry as ‘drama’).
  • Fund non-Ugandan companies. Foreign creators from partner countries can be attached to Official Co-productions.
  • Produce titles in-house.
  • Provide PR or marketing services for individual titles.
  • Accept unsolicited scripts or ‘pre-assess’ applications before they are submitted.
  • Authorise the exhibition/broadcast of content.
